HARLEYWOOD CAFE' CONCERTS
Los Gitanos
(the Gypsies)
Los Gitanos will play at
Harleywood Cafe on Friday evening, October 17, 2003, from 7:00
to 10:00 P.M. (no cover charge).
Los Gitanos give everything they’ve got with
a unique blend of bi-lingual blues, pop/rock and funky country.
Deborah Lasser—‘La Gitana.’ The name “Gitanos,” or
Gypsies, represents Deborah’s feelings about the songs
she sings. She recognizes no musical borders in a song list compiled
over a thirty-year journey through all the territories of the
North American song.
Known as Delta Dawn of the Yukon, Deborah played and sang in
the Jimmy Duplessis Trio, regularly traveling hundreds of miles
of the frozen north to entertain the faithful from Whitehorse
to Skagway. She then escaped frostbite to spend five years in
Zihuateneho, Mexico, where she was the regular feature at Owen
Lee’s “Hernandos Hideaway” on Playa Las Gatas.
From the Artic Circle to the Equator, ‘La Gitana’ has
traded her varied melodies for food, shelter, and transportation,
living much like the people she has chosen as her namesake.
Michael Meadows handles guitars and vocals
and hails from Akron, Ohio (home of the Pretenders and Devo and
Goodyear Tire). He
has performed and recorded with bands all over this country (and
a few others) and has a passion for travel.
Billy Jensen was born locally and has been
a percussionist nearly all his life. A music major, Billy has
toured professionally
as a drummer for six years, worked in record production, and
played with many local bands (Wanda and the Assets, Sector 7G).
