HARLEYWOOD CAFE' CONCERTS
 |
Jimmy Dykann at Harleywood. |
12-17-03: Harleywood
Cafe' presented Jimmy Dykann last
Friday evening, 12-12-03.
Jimmy's show presented a full range of this singer-songwriters
talent.
Especially pleasing to hear were his songs about the history
of Colorado. As
the show progressed, Jimmy was first joined by Dan Forde, a longtime
local
Aspen singer-songwriter legend. Next came my son, Harley III
joining Jimmy
on a few tunes. Still later in the evening Big Daddy Lee, Deborah
Lasser and
myself sat in. Finally, Damian Smith, from the newly formed band, "Take
the
Wheel," joined Jimmy and the group, taking the vocal spotlight
on the last
song of the evening. A fun time was had by all, audience
and musicians
alike, as we pushed past the scheduled 10:00pm finish, closing
the show at
almost 11:00pm. Thanks to everyone that has participated in our
2003
Concert Series. We look forward to bringing you many more exciting
and
musically rewarding concerts in 2004. Stay tuned to the website
for future
show announcements. See you next year, Harleywood...

Jimmy Dykann |
Jimmy Dykann had his musical beginnings playing
open mic nights in the
Folk clubs around Southern California in the late 1960s.
He grew up in
Pasadena, and spent early stage time as a teenager at the Ice
House, playing
songs between acts by tyro stand up comedians and magicians.
Early influences
included Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkle
and story
telling singers such as Gordon Lightfoot, Steve Gillette and
Jim Croce.
When Jimmy came to Colorado in 1972,
he began a thirty year infatuation with the stories
of people of the
west,
past and
present. He spent the mid seventies playing in
and out of Austin, Texas
with bands and as a solo act, and always writing songs.
The late seventies found Jimmy Dykann back in southern California
teamed up with another singer/songwriter, Haden Gregg, whom he'd met
and played with in Colorado. They recorded an album of original material
with
top session players, Russ Kunkel (James Taylor, Jackson Browne), Steve
Lukather (Toto) and Danny Kortchmar (Taylor, Don Henley). It was an
international release, and came out on Handshake Records, a subsidiary of
Columbia/Sony, in 1981 as Night Plane.
In the mid-eighties Jimmy again went
solo, came back to Colorado, and began opening shows throughout
the state for Jimmy Buffet, Jerry Jeff
Walker, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Delbert McClinton, and others.
Dykann keeps a busy schedule of private and public appearances and
is currently promoting his newest release Colorado: History in Song,
a
group of story songs about Colorado.
